My life recently has felt a bit like this marbled

My life recently has felt a bit like this marbled paper looks…fun and full but occasionally somewhat frantic! I’ve been neglecting you guys as a result. So 👋 how’s things? It’s February the birthstone of which is amethyst and it’s also Valentine’s Day (in case you hadn’t noticed). This little pendant meets my themes with its stunningly coloured amethyst, and the shape of it with its bright old-cut diamonds almost says heart, don’t you think? It also has a sweet story as it was sat undiscovered at the bottom of a pile of rubbishy tat, a lone dirty earring, when those sparklers winked at me. So I rescued him and I love how his transformation has gone. I’ll get him online soon but pre-listing price is a £225 (more info below). Big love to you x

Diamonds are so often referenced with ice so it feels appropriate to bring you some in this brrrsome weather. This divine Victorian ring is what’s known as a gypsy ring. There’s some vagary as to why but many reference the idea that the wealthy didn’t want their jewels in ostentatious settings whilst travelling (highwaymen you know). And this practicality translates beautifully to our modern world where having very proud settings can by tricky for those of us who don’t have servants (I’m working on my daughters). These beautiful bright diamonds are old-cuts, as you would expect from this era, and are lovely ‘fat’ stones which is how the trade terms a gem of generous proportions. What an un-woke industry I work in! Anyway back to the ring…I completely LOVE it. The gold is really vibrant and it is so up to the minute in style it might have been made by a number of sought after jewellers creating similar - but much more expensive - versions. It’s a size Q 1/2 which would be a large if it were a jumper but can be resized down at least two sizes and possibly more. Grab this ice queen before I run for the hills with her…❄️💎

Welcome 2025! I feel today is the start of the year, forget the 1st, it rained all day and despite my best efforts to be restrained there was quite a lot of fog lurking in my head. And this year brings some new excitements for me. I’ve been working at Minster Auctions for over three years and this month I take over as Head of Jewellery and Watches. I’m thrilled and rather amazed to be here having launched this career from a standing start only four years ago. Cubitt Fine Jewellery will continue in conjunction but being part of the auction world means I see hundreds of items of jewellery every month and my education never stops. So if 2025 is the year you think you might start something new… JFDI (just ahem do it) - it is NEVER too late!

‘Dear Tash, as ever I am hopeless with Christmas presents but I know my wife loves your stuff and I’m wondering if you’ve got any suggestions?’ That’s the perfect email for me to receive... it came in a 11.10am yesterday morning, I duly dispatched a selection of ideas within budget and by 11.30 we’d nailed it. Of course, there’s always a risk that we haven’t nailed it, in which case she’ll tell me and she can exchange or even send me on a mission to find exactly what she’d like*. But a bit like being presented with an engagement ring, it’s so lovely having a surprise even if you end up tweaking things later. There’s also always a gift voucher but I think that needs to come in the stocking not to illicit a certain eye rolling or worse. So if I were my husband, and his wife didn’t own a jewellery company these are the things he might like to be considering...
